Scott Griekspoor headlined second-round action at the Tennis Open Stadtwerke Meerbusch by knocking out No. 2 seed Jay Clarke from Great Britain on a rain-interrupted Tuesday. The World No. 401 from the Netherlands won 6-3, 6-4.

Griekspoor, who clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour in Blois, France last year, converted five of his eight break point chances to secure victory in one hour and 19 minutes. The 28-year-old from Haarlem will next take on either No. 15 seed Marc-Andrea Huesler from Switzerland or German wild card entry Louis Wessels.

Griekspoor will be joined by two players from Russia in the third round of the €46,600 ATP Challenger clay-court event. Ninth seed Pavel Kotov came back from a set down to overcome Dragos Dima of Romania, winning 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in the longest match of the day, lasting exactly three hours. The 20-year-old Moscow native awaits the winner of the encounter between Dutchman Jelle Sels and Jose Hernandez-Fernandez from the Dominican Republic.

Earlier in the afternoon, Aslan Karatsev rallied past Jan Satral from the Czech Republic 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. The No. 10 seed won 81 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 56 minutes. Up next for Karatsev will be either No. 7 seeded Briton Jan Choinski or Spanish veteran Daniel Munoz de la Nava.
