PORTOROZ, August 14, 2019
Rain storms during the night session on day two of the Zavarovalnica Sava Slovenia Open led to Aljaz Bedene‘s match against Illya Marchenko from the Ukraine to be cancelled on Tuesday. The tournament’s No. 1 from Slovenia had just begun his warm-up when both players were sent back to the changerooms.
With the rain continuing to pour organizers of the ATP Challenger event in Portoroz eventually called it a night. The eagerly-awaited encounter will be played on Wednesday at 6 pm followed by the match of another local hero, as Blaz Rola will take on Russian veteran Teymuraz Gabashvili.
Mukund, Klein into third round
In the morning session, Sasikumar Mukund of India and Lukas Klein from Slovakia booked their spot in the third round of the €46,600 hard-court event at the Tenis Center Lucija Portoroz. Mukund fought past US-American Evan King 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. The No. 16 seed fired 11 aces, winning 79 per cent of his first-service points to prevail in two hours of play. Mukund will next face either Bedene or Marchenko.
Klein knocked off No. 11 seed Danilo Petrovic of Serbia 6-3, 6-4. The 21-year-old capitalized on three of his four break point chances to secure a 6-3, 6-4 victory in one hour and 11 minutes. Klein awaits the winner of the encounter between Argentine ITF-entry Tomas Martin Etcheverry and fifth seeded Filip Horansky of Slovakia.
