Bianca Andreescu and Daniil Medvedev were honored as the 2019 US Open Series‘ Breakout Performers on Sunday at the US Open, concluding a US Open Series that featured a number of impressive performances from the game’s rising stars.
The Breakout Performer distinctions were voted on by a select panel of tennis media and broadcasters and fans, via Twitter. Andreescu, the 19-year old who became the first Canadian in 50 years to win the Rogers Cup singles title this summer, edged American 20-year old Sofia Kenin in the voting. Medvedev was a unanimous choice in the voting after winning his first ATP Masters 1000 title at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and reaching the finals at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C., and Rogers Cup in Montreal.
The US Open Series officially wrapped on Saturday night in Winston-Salem, with 22-year-old Hubert Hurkacz, of Poland, winning his first ATP title at the Winston-Salem Open
