Benjamin Becker is the only seeded player reaching the quarterfinals of the Ethias Trophy in Mons. The tournament’s third favourite defeated French qualifier Maxime Tabatruong, winning 6-3, 6-2 in one of the three remaining second round matches taking place on Thursday.
Becker smashed six aces and won 89 % of his first service points to prevail in 61 minutes to set a clash with Italian Andrea Arnaboldi in the round of the final eight.
Russian qualifier Konstantin Kravchuk, who knocked out fifth seed Marsel Ilhan in the opening round, continued his winning streak with a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Swedish teenaer Elias Ymer. The encounter lasted one hour and 56 minutes.
Kravchuk will take on Ilya Marchenko next. The world number 111 from the Ukraine defeated French qualifier Maxime Teixeira, who upset top-seed Steve Darcis on Wednesday. Marchenko fired seven aces, didn’t face a single break point and capitalized on his first match point to close the encounter after 66 minutes.
