Grenier Knocks Out Moutet At Cassis Open Provence

Hugo Grenier caused the upset of the day at the Cassis Open Provence. The World No. 338 knocked out fellow Frenchman Corentin Moutet, No. 2 seed of the €46,600 ATP Challenger hard-court event, in his second-round match on Wednesday.

Grenier capitalized on five of his nine break point chances to secure a 6-3, 6-2 victory in one hour and 25 minutes. The 23-year-old Montbrison native will next take on Aleksandr Nedovyesov from Kazakhstan.

Antoine Hoang, the tournament’s No. 4 also fell in the second round. The World No. 104 from France lost 6-4, 7-5 to Evgeny Karlovskiy of Russia. The 25-year-old from Moscow struck nine aces and won 84 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 24 minutes. Karlovskiy will next face recent Mallorca champion Emil Ruusuvuori from Finland, who defeated Brazilian teenager Thiago Seyboth Wild by the score of 6-3, 6-3.

Malek Jaziri, seeded third, was forced to retire in his match against Colombian veteran Santiago Giraldo after only two games due to a harmstring injury. Giraldo will play in-form Kazakh Dmitry Popko next.
