SEVILLA, September 12, 2019
Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz Garfia booked his spot in the third round of the LVII Copa Sevilla. The 16-year-old from Murcia defeated World No. 184 Yannick Hanfmann from Germany, who clinched two titles on the ATP Challenger Tour this season, in two tie-break sets 7-6(3), 7-6(4) on Wednesday evening.
In his only fifth appearance at Challenger level, Alcaraz Garfia has reached the stage of the last 16 for the second time. The World No. 566 eased past Rio Noguchi of Japan in the opening round and won 53 per cent of the total points played in his match against Hanfmann to secure victory in just under two hours of play.

Up next for Alcaraz Garfia will be No. 7 seed Pedro Martinez, who emerged victorious from the all-Spanish encounter with recent ONTIER Cup Trofeo Real Club de Tenis de Oviedo champion Oriol Roca Batalla, winning 6-0, 6-1 in one hour and 11 minutes.
Later in the day, top seed Jaume Munar stepped into action. The World No. 112 from Spain opened his home campaign with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win over Frenchman Laurent Lokoli. Munar, who is playing his second ATP Challenger event of the season after reaching the third round in Genova last week, didn’t face a break point and converted four of his own six chances to advance in one hour and seven minutes. The 22-year-old from Mallorca will next take on compatriot Bernabe Zapata Miralles.
