The remaining five second round matches were scheduled on Thursday at the € 85,000 ATP Challenger Open de Rennes.
In the closest encounter, eighth seed Illya Marchenko defeated Norbert Gombos 6-1, 2-6, 7-5. The in-form-Ukrainian, who took the title last week in Mons, was more solid with his second serve, winning 57% of the points. Marchenko sealed victory in two hours and nine minutes to take on Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals.
Third seed Steve Darcis lost to Igor Sijsling 4-6, 2-6. The 28-year-old Dutch won 84% of his first service points and converted four of his five break points to prevail in 64 minutes.
Sijsling will face Jan Mertl, who knocked out the tournament’s number five Filip Krajinovic. The 33-year-old Czech fired ten aces and saved the only break point he faced to close the encounter after one hour and eight minutes.
Fourth seed Malek Jaziri made it to the stage of the final eight, playing only five games, as Swedish Teenager Elias Ymer was forced to retire at 1-4 due to injury. Jaziri will play Marsel Ilhan next.
