The ATP Challenger Tour will return to the Greater Barcelona area for the second edition of the Sanchez-Casal Head by NH Hotel Group held from September 30 to October 6, 2019. The official presentation of the €46,600 clay-court event was held on Tuesday at the Sanchez-Casal Academy, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
The entry list is led by defending champion Roberto Carballes Baena, who defeated fellow Spaniard Pedro Martinez in last year’s final in three sets. The 26-year-old Tenerife native won two ATP Challenger titles this season at Murcia and Lisbon and is currently ranked at World No. 77.
Carballes Baena will be joined by fellow top 100 player Martin Klizan from Slovakia as well as a strong contingent of Spanish tennis cracks. Recent Copa Sevilla champion Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and #NextGenATP star Jaume Munar will also be part of the line-up.

Sergio Casal, Tournament Director, points out that “our goal is for this event to be a fixed appointment for the players in their calendar. In addition to the important support of the RFET (Spanish Tennis Federation), this year we have the collaboration of the Diputación de Barcelona and the broadcast by Eurosport and Liga TV. This will give special projection to the tournament”.
Marisa Sánchez Vicario, President of the Emilio Sánchez Vicario Foundation, stressed that “the tournament is organized with the support of the Emilio Sánchez Vicario Foundation, which will hold a charity concert featuring Locos por la Música, (with performance by OBK and Abbeys Beat), a trial for the Casper Tour and a Tennis Clinic.”
