BAD SALZDETFURTH, October 18, 2015
Matthias Wunner captured his maiden title on the ITF Future Circuit, winning the ninth edition of the US-$ 10,000 Pro-Event in Bad Salzdetfurth on Sunday.
The unseeded German defeated the tournament’s top favourite Andriej Kapas in Sunday’s final 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. Wunner smashed 11 aces on the carpet and won 89% of his first service points to seal victory in two hours and 29 minutes.
“I am just happy,” told the 22-year-old, who was visibly exhausted, as he had to go the distance for the third time this week. “Bad Salzdetfurth seems to be a good place for me,” Wunner added after he had also reached the semi-finals the two years before.
On Saturday, Czech duo Petr Michnev and Pavel Nejedly claimed the doubles title, winning the final 6-4, 6-2 against top-seeds Janis and Martins Podzus.
