Kwiatkowski Fights Back To Reach Tiburon Challenger Semis

TIBURON, September 28, 2019

In a hard-fought match on Friday that stretched to two hours and 23 minutes, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski defeated US-American wild card entry Brandon Nakashima to move on to the semi-finals of the First Republic Tiburon Challenger.

Kwiatkowski rallied from a double-break down in the third set and saved three match points to secure a 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(6) victory. The No. 14 seed from the United States will next take on Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia, who defeated US-American Maxime Cressy 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 16 minutes.

Top seed Tommy Paul also advanced to the stage of the final four at the ATP Challenger 100 hard-court event. The World 87 bested Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador in another match that topped two hours. Paul won four points less than his rival but prevailed by the score of 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(2). Next up for Paul will be No. 4 seed Emilio Gomez of Ecuador, who battled past US-American Sekou Bangoura 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
