Frederico Ferreira Silva has clinched his first title of the season winning the Tavira Tennis Open 2019 held on hard courts at the Clube Ténis Tavira. The No. 2 seed from Portugal defeated Frenchman Alexandre Muller, the top seed of the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 event, 6-2, 6-1 in Sunday’s singles final.
Ferreira Silva advanced to the championship match without dropping a set, beating his compatriots Fabio Coelho and Tiago Cacao as well as Ivan Davydov of Russia and Briton Evan Hoyt. The World No. 234 capitalized on five of his 10 break point chances to secure victory in 66 minutes.
“I am very happy, as my goal was to come here and to win the tournament,” Ferreira Silva said after the final. “I improved my level of play with each round and played very well today.”
By lifting his 16th career title on the ITF Pro Circuit, the 24-year-old lefty took away from the Algarve €2,950 in prize money as well as 20 ATP Ranking points.
