STOCKHOLM, October 17, 2019

Mikael Ymer headlined Wednesday’s first-round action at the Intrum Stockholm Open. The 21-year-old local favourite has clinched his first win in Sweden’s capital since 2016, as he defeated Joao Sousa from Portugal 7-5, 6-4.

Ymer, who lifted back-to-back ATP Challenger trophies on French soil in Orleans and Mouilleron-Le-Captif, celebrated his 11th consecutive match win after one hour and 45 minutes. The wild card entry broke his opponen’t serve six times and will next take on Cedrik-Marcel Stebe from Germany.

Later in the evening, Sam Querrey knocked out No. 2 seed Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria. The 32-year-old US-American fired 25 aces and won 79 per cent of his first-service points to secure a 6-7(7), 6-3, 7-6(3) in two hours and 14 minutes.

“It was a fun match. It was a close match,” said Querrey. “A lot of times in these matches it is just a couple of points here and there. That is what it was today.”

Querrey will next take on either fifth seeded Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain or Italian lucky loser Gianluca Mager.
