Pablo Carreno Busta, who is making his first appearance at the Intrum Stockholm Open since 2015, defeated Sam Querrey from the United States to advance to semi-finals. The No. 5 seed from Spain came back from a set down to secure a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win on Friday.
Carreno Busta withstood 16 aces and broke his opponent’s serve four times to advance in one hour and 38 minutes. The 28-year-old will next play Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic for the first time at tour-level. The pair previously split two ATP Challenger Tour matches at 2013 Poznan and 2015 Braunschweig.
Later in the evening, Yuichi Sugita ended the career of Janko Tipsarevic on the ATP Tour. The 35-year-old Serbian was playing his final ATP event. Tipsarevic saved nine match points against the Japanese but eventually lost 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(4) after thrilling three hours and nine minutes.

“I will remember this moment for the rest of my life,” Tipsarevic told the crowd during a post-match ceremony. The Belgrade native won four ATP Tour titles and reached a career high at World No. 8 in April 2012. Tipsarevic is still to represent Serbia at the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid next month.
“This is one of the most emotional matches for me. I just tried my best,” Sugita said and will next take on No. 4 seed Denis Shapovalov. The 20-year-old Canadian cruised past German qualifier Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 6-0, 6-3 in only 48 minutes.
