VIENNA, October 19, 2019
Top seed Dominic Thiem will open his title at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on Tuesday against Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The 26-year-old Austrian is seeking his first trophy at the ATP 500 event.
Both players met on Friday afternoon on the rooftop of the Erste Campus building enjoying the great view over Vienna. “The view is beautiful. It is always great to spent time with Dominic. He is a really good guy,” Tsonga said. “When I play a tournament my goal is always to go through and try to take the trophy. However, it’s a tough draw and a big challenge.”
The World No. 36 from Le Mans won both of the previous two meetings with Thiem at Indian Wells 2016 and five years ago in Vienna.
“It’s always great to be in Vienna. It’s just a beautiful city,” Thiem said. “Hitting a few shots with Jo made it even more special. I hope to be ready for Tuesday.”
