Denis Shapovalov has claimed his maiden crown on the ATP Tour by winning the 2019 Intrum Stockholm Open. The No. 4 seed from Canada defeated Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 6-4, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.
Shapovalov struck 16 aces, saved the only break point he faced and capitalized on two of his own eight chances to prevail after one hour and 24 minutes.

“I am definitely super happy and just really proud,” said Shapovalov, quoted on the ATP Tour website. “Me and my team have worked really hard to get into this position of lifting a title, so I am really proud of myself and proud of my team right now.”
Shapovalov took away from Sweden €109,590 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.
Kontinen/Roger-Vasselin lift trophy in debut week as a team
Earlier in the day, Henri Kontinen of Finland and Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin lifted the doubles trophies. The duo beat No. 3 seeds Mate Pavic of Croatia and Bruno Soares from Brazil 6-4, 6-2. The encounter lasted one hour and seven minutes.
“It was the first time we played together and the first time for me here in Stockholm, so definitely a great week,” said Roger-Vasselin, quoted on the ATP Tour website. “We played probably one of our best matches today. We knew that our opponents were very strong, winning in Shanghai… It was a perfect week.”
