Ugo Humbert and Evgeny Donskoy will meet in Sunday’s championship match of the Open Brest Credit Agricole. The top seed from France edged past No. 9 seed Norbert Gombos in Saturday’s semi-finals 6-4, 7-6(6).
Humbert sent down nine aces, won 87 per cent of his first-service points and saved all three break points he faced to secure victory in one hour and 44 minutes.
Earlier in the day, Donskoy battled past No. 6 seeded South African Lloyd Harris 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. The eighth favourite from Russia withstood 14 aces and broke his opponent’s serve two times to prevail after one hour and 49 minutes.
Humbert, who has qualified for the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan next week, and Donskoy will meet for the first time. The 21-year-old Frenchman is seeking his third ATP Challenger title of the season following his triumphs on home soil in Cherbourg and Istanbul, Turkey. Humbert could lift his sixth career trophy. Donskoy is bidding for his 13th ATP Challenger career title, his second in 2019.
