Jaume Munar is the champion of the 2019 Uruguay Open, the 19th edition of the $54,160 ATP Challenger event hosted at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in Montevideo. The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated No. 3 seed Federico Delbonis of Argentina 7-5, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.
During the week, Munar rallied from a set down on three occasions against Jozef Kovalik of Slovakia, Argentine Andrea Collarini and recent Guayaquil champion Thiago Seyboth Wild of Brazil to reach the championship match. The No. 5 seed, who practices at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, was in control of the final. Munar saved four of the five break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own seven break point chances to secure victory in one hour and 33 minutes.

“It’s a pleasure to end the year like this. At some point I hesitated to play in Montevideo, but my team helped me making the decision to come and I am very grateful,” Munar said after the final.
“I finish the year in almost the same position as last season, but I played more ATP Tour tournaments, which helped me to improve my tennis and to gain confidence.”
By winning the last clay-court tournament of the season and lifting his first trophy in 2019, Munar took away from South America $7,200 as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
Earlier in the day, Facundo Bagnis and Andres Molteni of Argentina captured the doubles title. The No. 3 seeds battled past the all-Brazilian combination of Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos 6-4, 5-7, 12-10. The encounter lasted one hour and 49 minutes.
