STARNBERG, December 2, 2019
According to different media reports, Novak Djokovic will appear at the Adelaide Invitational ATP 250 event, which is set to get underway on January 12 at Memorial Drive. The World No. 2 will arrive at the Australian Open with plenty of matches under his belt.
Djokovic will start his competitive preparation for the new season at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi from 19-21 December. Five top 10 players will be in action at the Zayed Sports City including Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 32-year-old from Belgrade is then scheduled to represent Serbia in the inaugural ATP Cup which sees 24 countries play over nine days in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney for $15 million prize money.
Djokovic will finalise his preparations for the Australian Open by competing in the week-long WTA and ATP combined tournament in Adelaide. It’s the first time since 2009 that Djokovic will play the week before the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. He lost to Jarkko Nieminen in the Sydney semi-finals that season, before retiring with fatigue against Andy Roddick in the Australian Open quarterfinals.
Novak Djokovic has entered to play the @AdelaideTennis starting January 12 at Memorial Drive. Great news for the event. Barty, Halep, Kvitova, Kerber plus more are also set to play the event. Upgrade at the Drive is complete & world class tournament tennis is back in Adelaide.

Djokovic will be joined in Adelaide by home favourite and Australian No. 1 Alex de Minaur.
“I am looking forward to playing at the Adelaide International in January,” De Minaur said.
“2019 has been an exciting year so I am hoping to continue this form in the lead up to the 2020 Australian Open.
“I have heard a lot about the redevelopment happening at Memorial Drive. It is going to be really special to be a part of the first tournament held under the roof and I think we will see lots of Aussie fans coming to support this new event.”
