MUNICH, December 18, 2019
Organizers of the BMW Open by FWU announced on Wednesday that Italian teen sensation Jannik Sinner will come to Munich next year. The 2020 edition of the ATP 250 clay-court event will be held from April 27 to May 3 at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos.
Eighteen-year-old Sinner is the youngest player ranked inside the Top 100. Sitting outside the Top 500 in February, he notched his first ATP Challenger title in Bergamo, before lifting the trophies in Lexington and Ortisei. He also clinched the Next Gen ATP title in Milan. The teenager from South Tyrol is up to a career-high World No. 78, marking the biggest jump to the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings this year.
“Jannik is one of the greatest jewels in tennis and in 2019 he impressively showed that he can have a unique career like Federer, Nadal or Djokovic,” BMW Open by FWU tournament director Patrik Kühnen predicts.
The BMW Open by FWU is the first of four German tournaments on the season’s ATP Tour calendar, contested in Bavaria’s picturesque capital city of Munich. Almost 39,000 spectators attended the “toughest clay-court tournament in the world” in 2019 when Cristian Garin of Chile captured his second title on the ATP Tour.
