Friday was a packed day with two men’s and two women’s matches at the 2019 Hawaii Open Tennis Tournament, presented by Ward Village and Hawaii Tourism, and the Stan Sheriff Center was buzzing with tennis fans.

First match of the day was an upset, with Brandon Nakashima continuing his epic run by defeating Taylor Fritz in straight sets. The 18-year-old US-American, who turned pro this year after playing at the NCAA level for University of Virginia, beat Christian Harrison in his opening match.

Later in the day, Danielle Collins took on Yanina Wickmayer. Collins, who had a career breakout in 2018, finishing her first Top 50 season when she made it to the semi-finals at the Miami Open and Silicon Valley Classic, secured the win and headed into the final round. Sam Querrey and Jordan Thompson had an intense match, with Querrey advancing to the finals after a tie-break in the third set. The last match of the day featured spirited competition between Angelique Kerber and Masaki Doi, with Kerber earning the victory. The 31-year-old German will face Collins in the finals.
