STARNBERG, January 20, 2020
Oliver Mueller, former manager of Germany’s ice hockey club Kölner Haie, and his license company have successfully acquired the license for the WTA tournament the week before the French Open.
“We are pleased that we were able to take over the WTA license from Nürnberg and continue to present world-class tennis for women in Germany,” Mueller, president and tournament director of the new tournament, stated in a press release.
The new tournament will probably take place in the Rhineland region starting in 2021. “We are now using the time until the first serve to offer the tennis professionals, the spectators and our business partners a glamorous stage for an international premium tennis event of highest class,” explains Mueller, who had been organizing an ATP Challenger tournament in Karlsruhe for many years.
Ticket sales should start this summer. More details concerning the tournament and the official tournament name will be announced later this spring.
