MUNICH, February 7, 2020
Philipp Kohlschreiber will return to the BMW Open by FWU this spring. The three-time Munich champion joins fellow German Alexander Zverev and Italian teen sensation Jannik Sinner. Kohlschreiber clinched the title of the ATP 250 clay-court tournament in 2007, 2012 and 2016.
“I’m happy to be able to play in Munich every year in front of my home fans. That’s always a great motivation. I have participating in the BMW Open by FWU 15 times since 2002. Of course it is one of my favorite tournaments,” Kohlschreiber said during a press conference on Friday.

Organizers of the event also announced that the contract with the presenting sponsor FWU AG ends this year and will not be extended. The company based in Munich has been partner of the tournament for 13 years.
The BMW Open by FWU is the first of four German tournaments on the season’s ATP Tour calendar and will be held from April 27 to May 3 2020 at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos in Bavaria’s picturesque capital city of Munich. Almost 39,000 spectators attended the “toughest clay-court tournament in the world” this year.
