KOBLENZ, February 19, 2020
Dustin Brown headlined Wednesday’s second-round action at the Koblenz Open by celebrating his first match win of the season. The No. 10 seed from Germany defeated Uladzimir Ignatik of Belarus 6-4, 6-4
Brown, who had been sidelined from the courts for more than four months in the second half of 2019 due to injury, fell in the opening round of the qualifying to the 2020 Australian Open as well as to the ATP 250 event in Montpellier. The 35-year-old also lost in the first round of the ATP Challenger in Cherbourg, but was the dominant player on the Centre Court of the CGM Arena today.
Brown saved both break points he faced and capitalized on two of his own four break point chances to advance in one hour and seven minutes. Up next for Brown will be Dimitar Kuzmanov of Bulgaria, who knocked off No. 5 seeded Frenchman Maxime Janvier 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 38 minutes.
World No. 198 Tallon Griekspoor will join Yannick Maden and Yannick Hanfmann, the top two seeds of the €46,600 ATP Challenger Tour event, in the third round. The tournament’s No. 3 from the Netherlands opened his title bid with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(3) victory over Lucas Gerch from Germany. Griekspoor, who needed two hours and 26 minutes to overcome the qualifier, will next take on No. 13 seeded German Daniel Masur.
