BERGAMO, February 22, 2020
No Italian players are left in the singles draw of the Internazionali di Tennis Trofeo Perrel-Faip in Bergamo after Friday’s quarterfinals. Chun-hsin Tseng, called Jason, continued his good run of form by defeating local favourite Andrea Arnaboldi 6-4, 6-4.
The 18-year-old qualifier from Chinese Taipei, who beat Leo Borg in the opening round of the €46,600 ATP Challenger hard-court event, outpointed his opponent 71-63 to secure victory in one hour and 40 minutes. Tseng, the 2018 French Open and Wimbledon boys’s singles champion as well as former World No. 1 in the Junior Rankings, will take on No. 7 seed Enzo Couacaud in the stage of the final four.
The World No. 208 from France knocked out No. 2 seed Roberto Marcora of Italy, who finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner in Bergamo last year. Couacaud saved all nine break points he faced and converted two of his own nine break point opportunities to prevail after one hour and 53 minutes.
Earlier at the PalaAgnelli, Hugo Gestion defeated No. 5 seed Cem Ilkel of Turkey 6-4, 6-4. The 15th favourite from France won 54 per cent of the total points played to advance in one hour and 40 minutes. Up next for Gestion will be Illya Marchenko from the Ukraine, who fought past Frenchman Baptiste Crepatte in the longest match of the day. Marchenko fired 13 aces and won 77 per cent of his first-service points to earn a 6-7(5), 7-6(3), 6-0 victory in two hours and 36 minutes.
