Couacaud To Face Marchenko For Title In Bergamo

Enzo Couacaud and Illya Marchenko advanced to the singles final of the Internazionali di Tennis Trofeo Perrel-Faip in Bergamo. The No. 7 seed from France ended the impressive run of teenager Chun-hsin Tseng from Chinese Taipei with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) win.

Couacaud was solid on his serve, sent down nine aces and saved two match points to prevail after two hours and 27 minutes to reach his third title match on the ATP Challenger Tour. The World No. 208, who was born in Mauritius, is accompanied in Bergamo by his coach Xavier Le Gall, his girl-friend and one of his brothers. Couacaud will celebrate his 25th birthday next week.

Earlier in the day, Marchenko also had to came back from a set down to fight past French teenager Hugo Gaston. The 32-year-old from the Ukraine converted seven of his 10 break point chances to secure a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in two hours and 24 minutes.

Marchenko and Couacaud will meet for the first time. The French is seeking his second title on the ATP Challenger Tour following his maiden triumph on home soil in Cassis two years ago. Marchenko could lift his eighth Challenger career trophy, his first since Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan in October last year.

Also on Saturday at the PalaAgnelli, Zdenek Kolar from the Czech Republic and Italian Julian Ocleppo took the doubles crowns. The unseeded duo defeated No. 2 seeds Luca Margaroli from Switzerland and Andrea Vavassori of Italy 6-4, 6-3. The encounter lasted just under one hour of play.
