BERLIN, March 3, 2020
Organizers of the new WTA tournament in Berlin announced its title sponsor on Tuesday. The event will be known as the „bett1 Open“. Germany’s Head of Women’s Tennis Barbara Rittner confirmed that reigning Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and US-American teen sensation Coco Gauff will join home favourites Angelique Kerber and Julia Görges at the first edition of the $850,000 grass-court WTA Premier event to be held on grass from 13 to 21 June 2020 at the venue of the LTTC Rot-Weiß Berlin.
“Bett” is the German word for “bed” and has nothing to do with betting. The company from Berlin was launched in 2004 as an online shop for mattresses. According to their homepage, the company “offers best products at a fair prices.” With this approach, bett1 has prevailed against the traditional bedding commerce’s resistance.
“I am very happy to announce that we have entered into a long-term partnership with bett1. bett1 will be the main and title sponsor of the WTA premier event in the coming years,” organizer Edwin Weindorfer said. “With its brand, bett1 is very present in the sports environment. We are therefore very happy and proud to be able to create something really big in tennis in and for Berlin together with this very successful company. I hope that the long-term partnership with bett1 will provide important impulses for tennis both in Germany and internationally.”
“As an international company from Berlin, it is a great incentive for bett1 to support the women’s tennis tournament and to develop this unique event into a permanent institution for Berlin. We are proud to appear with our brand as the main and title sponsor for the first time,” said Adam Szpyt, managing director of bett1.
