“I think I showed a bit of grit out there,” Millman said of his spirited comeback, quoted by Tennis Australia.
“That’s what Davis Cup is all about, never giving up. That’s the Australian way.”
Earlier, Jordan Thompson provided Australia with a dream start posting a 6-4 6-4 win over Thiago Monteiro in the opening singles rubber.
“It’s massive,” Thompson said of his victory. “I didn’t want to be sending Johnny (Millman) out there 0-1 down. It’s the perfect start being 1-0 up.”
Saturday will see James Duckworth make his Davis Cup debut alongside John Peers when they face Marcelo Demoliner and Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves in the doubles rubber. The reverse singles will follow.
