The Davis Cup World Group I Play-offs first-round tie between Pakistan and Slovenia has finally come to an end. After two washouts on Friday and Saturday, the home team celebrated a 3-0 win on the grass courts of the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad on Monday afternoon.
Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi gave Pakistan the lead, as the 39-year-old doubles specialist came back from a set down to battle past Nik Razborsek 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(1) after two hours and 25 minutes. In the second singles rubber, unranked 40-year-old Aqeel Khan saved two match points to upset Slovenia’s No. 1 Blaz Kavcic 0-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 in two hours and 26 minutes.
In the following doubles rubber, the veteran pair of Qureshi and Khan defeated Kavcic and Tom Kovevar-Desman 6-3, 7-6 to secure victory for the hosts. The encounter lasted one hour and 26 minutes.

The 12 winning nations from the World Group I Play-offs will compete in World Group I ties in September 2020 along with the losing nations from the Qualifiers. Pakistan Davis Cup team is among the top six teams out of 44 Asian countries in Davis Cup Group I, which also includes China, India, Uzbekistan, Korea and Lebanon.
The losing nations from the World Group I Play-offs will compete in World Group II ties in September 2020, along with the winning nations from the World Group II Play-offs.
