STARNBERG, April 21, 2020

Organizers of the First Republic Tiburon Challenger, scheduled to be held from September 28 to October 4, announced on Monday that this year’s tournament has been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

“This difficult decision was made after careful consideration for the health of the players, fans, and tournament volunteers and staff. We are already planning for 2021 and look forward to bringing world class tennis back to Tiburon,” the tournament stated on Twitter.

Offering the rare combination of stunning Northern California scenery and world-class tennis action, the Tiburon Challenger has become a bit of a special thing over the last 13 years. Voted one of the “Top 10 Most Scenic ATP Challenger Venues in the World” the Tiburon Peninsula Club, host venue for the hard-court event, offers a cozy tennis site nestled quietly in the hills of the beautiful Tiburon peninsula.

One of only four ATP Challenger Tour 100 events in the United States, the Tiburon Challenger has proven to be a great spring board to the ATP Tour for up-and-coming stars from over 44 countries. US-American Tommy Paul clinched the title last year. The tournament’s top seed battled past No. 8 seeded Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis in the singles final in three sets.
