On Sunday top-seed Jan Mertl faced the tournament’s number six Yannick Jankovits for this year’s title at the ninth edition of the Dittelbrunn Open. Both players showed a solid performance throughout the week and reached the final at the US-$ 10.000 event by only dropping one set.

In front of about 60 spectators, Mertl was in control of the match right from the beginning. The Czech veteran overpowered his opponent from the baseline with good length in his groundstrokes and served pretty well firing five aces. Mertl only faced one single break point in the entire encounter and sealed victory in only 55 minutes winning 6-2, 6-1. After Mertl had emerged victorious in Templice and Antalya, in Hambach he took his third Future title of the season and was understandably happy.

“I just tried to avoid many mistakes. Yannick didn’t play that quickly, so that I was able to adapt the balls pretty well. I was also very aggressive on my own, which is a key on this fast surface,” Mertl told after his seventeenth victory on the ITF Pro Circuit and admitted that he is not counting his Future titles. “I will play in Leimen next week and I also entered the third Future in Germany but I’m not sure if I’m going to play it. After another ITF event in the Czech Republic I want to be back on the Challenger Tour playing in Eckental and the final tournaments in Italy to close the season,” the world number 253 described his further schedule.
