According to the Sport-Informations-Dienst SID, Alexander Zverev will have a new coach working alongside him. The 23-year-old German has joined forces with former Spanish professional David Ferrer.
Zverev and Ferrer, who spent two weeks together at Monte Carlo on a trial basis, will be working together until the end of this year. “We are a team now,” Zverev said after his win against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in Sophia Antipolis, France on Saturday evening.
Zverev, who is coached by his father, Alexander Sr., has brought on former top players before, having been trained by Juan Carlos Ferrero and Ivan Lendl but experienced friction with both of them. The World No. 7 confirmed: “David and my father are my head coaches now. My dad doesn’t get any younger. Both are extremely important for the team.”
The 38-year-old Spaniard captured 27 singles titles on the ATP Tour and finished runner-up at 2013 Roland Garros to Rafael Nadal. On Sunday, Ferrer will join his new protégé on the Cote d’Azur.
