HAMBURG, September 21, 2020
World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev leads the way at the Hamburg European Open, an ATP 500 clay-court event. The 24-year-old Russian is making his first appearance at the German tournament since 2016, when he was 20.
The top seed will be challenged by a strong field, with four of the Top 10 players in the FedEx ATP Rankings set to compete. The second seed is reigning Nitto ATP Finals champion Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, who is making his Hamburg debut.
Three former champions are in the draw: two-time winner Nikoloz Basilashvili from Georgia, Italy’s Fabio Fognini and Frenchman Gilles Simon. Other players to watch include third seed Gael Monfils of France, in-form Russian Andrey Rublev and #NextGenATP Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Additionally, the site of the Hamburg European Open has been transformed ahead of the 2020 edition of the tournament following 18 months of renovation work. This includes a new-look Rothenbaum Tennis Stadium.
The renovation of the new Rothenbaum Stadium 🏟 is finally finished. Especially spectators and fans profit from new seats, a modern plaza in front of the stadium as well as from the impressive “Walk of Champions” 🏆.
