Jaume Munar is the champion of the Lisboa Belem Open held at the Club Internacional de Foot-Ball (CIF) in Lisbon, Portugal. The top seed from Spain defeated home favourite and No. 2 seed Pedro Sousa 7-6(3), 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Munar won 71 per cent of his first-service points and broke his opponent’s serve four times to prevail after one hour and 19 minutes.
“It was a complicated final between two equal players,” said Munar. “I played well and I am very pleased with the win today. It was a special week, as all the hard work in recent times paid off. Mentally I felt good and physically it was perfect. I am happy about my level.”
By lifting his fifth ATP Challenger trophy, his first since 2019 Montevideo, the World No. 112 took away from Portugal €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
Following the triumphs of Tommy Robredo and Roberto Carballes Baena, Munar has become Lisbon’s third consecutive champion from Spain. Germany’s Oscar Otte won the inaugural tournament in 2017. Munar will next compete in the Istanbul Challenger TED Open in Turkey. As the tournament’s No. 2 seed, he will open his title bid against Elias Ymer from Sweden.
