This autumn’s three-week ATP Challenger clay-court swing in Spain has come to a close with Pedro Martinez taking the title of the AnyTech365 Marbella Tennis Open held at the Puento Romano Tennis Club in Marbella. The No. 2 seed of the €44,820 tournament emerged victorious from an all-Spanish singles final with No. 6 seed Jaume Munar, winning 7-6(4), 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Martinez capitalized on four of his seven break-point chances and won 54 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 19 minutes.

“This title means a lot to me. It was the icing on the cake to the good year I have had,” explained the Valencia resident, who was competing in his second consecutive Challenger final after finishing runner-up to teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz in Alicante. “My record in Challenger finals is not the best and being able to win here in Spain gives me a lot of confidence. The truth is that I feel very satisfied.”

By lifting his second Challenger trophy following his triumph at 2018 Bastad, Sweden, Martinez pocketed €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

“I must congratulate Pedro for the great match he has played,” said Munar. “He is having an incredible year and today he has shown it again. It has been a really tough final in a season that has been difficult for everyone. We must be grateful for having the opportunity to continue enjoying our sport.”

The 23-year-old from Mallorca earned €3,650 in prize money and 48 ATP Ranking points.
