Italian lucky loser Andrea Arnaboldi headlined Wednesday’s second-round action at the inaugural €44,820 Internazionali Di Tennis Citta di Parma by upsetting the tournament’s top seed Gregoire Barrere of France 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The World No. 292 from Milan fired 14 aces and won 83 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 29 minutes. Arnaboldi will next take on Frederico Ferreira Silva from Portugal, who benefited from a walkover from Frenchman Constant Lestienne.
“I played a really good match,” Arnaboldi said. “A stupid break made the difference in the opening set but I managed to recover quickly by attacking my opponent and showing my best tennis until the last point.”
