M25 Vale do Lobo POR – Zuk captures back-to-back titles
Following his title win at the Future Nord in Hamburg last week, Kacper Zuk clinched the trophy of the Vale do Lobo Tennis Open, hosted by the Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy.
The 21-year-old Pole eased past No. 3 seeded Chun Hsin Tseng from Chinese Taipei, who was ranked World No. 1 as a junior, in the stage of the final four in three sets.
Nuno Borges emerged victorious from the semi-final encounter between two Portuguese wildcard entries, beating Gastao Elias in straight sets.
No. 2 seed Zuk converted two of his three break-point chances in the title match without dropping a service game to prevail 6-4, 6-3 in 81 minutes.
“I spoke with a friend of mine who was at college with him and he told me many things. I also watched several matches on the internet, so he knew exactly what to expect,” Zuk told Portuguese tennis website Raquetc after the final.
“I tried to be very solid at the beginning and not give away easy points, because it was a final, there is always pressure and the start of the match is very important. Fortunately, I was able to hold my service. I am very, very happy and proud of the way I played today as well as the last two weeks,” added Zuk, who lifted the trophy of the Future Nord in Hamburg, Germany two weeks ago.
The Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki-born, who represented Poland at the inaugural ATP-Cup 2020 in Australia, has celebrated his seventh career title on the ITF World Tennis Tour, his fourth in 2020.
M15 Sharm El Sheikh EGY – Corwin with debut title on the Pro Circuit
The M15 Sharm El Sheikh tournament, held at Soho Square, concluded with the title win of Felix Corwin from the United States.
The former college player for the University of Minnesota knocked off the tournament’s top favourite Alessandro Bega from Italy in the semi-finals in two sets.
David Poljak from the Czech Republic rallied down Ukrainian Oleksii Krutykh in the stage of the last four in straight sets.
Twenty-four-year-old Corwin won 83 per cent of his first-service points in the championship match to secure a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 win against his contemporary rival after two hours and 26 minutes. The Kalamazoo native has lifted his first trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
M15 Heraklion GRE – Furness triumphs in Crete
Evan Furness is the champion of the 17th Lyttos Beach ITF World Tour tournament, hosted by the Lyttos Beach Tennis Academy.
The French qualifier knocked out Belarusian top seed Uladzimir Ignatik in the semi-finals in straight sets.
Serbian No. 3 seed Matija Pecotic, who played college tennis at Princeton University and worked as a coach at the Harvard University, advanced to the final with a three-set win over Fabian Marozsan from Hungary.
Pontivy-born Furness made one point less in the title match but secured a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory in two hours and 13 minutes against his 31-year-old rival. The 22-year-old has celebrated his fourth title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
M15 Monastir TUN – Hard court specialist Mansouri prevails on home soil
Skander Mansouri emerged victorious at the Magic Hotel Tours tournament, which was held at the Hotel Skanes Family in Monastir.
The 25-year-old Tunisian battled past Guido Ivan Justo from Argentina in the stage of the final four in three sets.
Argentinian Thiago Agustin Tirante, who clinched his maiden trophy on the Pro Circuit last week at the same place, made the last step to the final by defeating Alibek Kachmazov from Russia in three sets.
Tunis-born Mansouri won 80 per cent of his first-service points in the championship match to claim a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory after two hours and 31 minutes. The No. 2 seed has celebrated his seventh hard-court title, his fifth on Tunisian soil.
