As one of the top indoor events on the ATP Challenger Tour, the Open Blot Rennes has been a staple on the circuit for more than a decade. The tournament has been an integral part of the European indoor hard-court swing in January but will be postponed next year due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The 15th edition of the event is scheduled to take place at the Le Liberté Arena in Rennes from September 13 to 19, 2021.
Organizers stated in a press release on Monday that a change of date would allow them to prepare the upcoming edition in a more serene way. The message reads: “New date but the same ambition: to offer the public and partners a popular and high-level event, which has made the Open Blot Rennes one of the best ATP Challengers in Europe.”
“The uncertain health situation as well as economic aspects led to the decision,” tournament director Matthieu Blesteau explained. Erwann Hergue, in charge of public relations, added: “At a time when some of our partners are suffering and have other priorities, it seems more decent to leave time for everyone.”
In January 2020, Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech capped his dream week on home soil when he captured his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour. In front of 3,000 spectators, creating a fantastic atmosphere inside the sold-out Le Liberé Arena, the 24-year-old local favourite defeated British veteran James Ward in the singles final.
