Kudla Continues Good Run Of Form In Cary

US-American Denis Kudla continues his run through the bottom of the draw at the Atlantic Tire Championships held at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina, United States. The No. 2 seed of the $52,080 ATP Challenger hard-court event defeated No. 7 seed Dmitry Popko from Kazakhstan 6-4, 6-1 in Friday’s quarterfinals.

Kudla saved both break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own 11 break-point chances to advance after one hour and 27 minutes. The World No. 124 will next take on Colombia’s top-ranked player Daniel Elahi Galan. The No. 3 seed, sitting at World No. 133 in the ATP Rankings, edged out Christopher Eubanks from the United States 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 13 minutes.

In the top half of the draw, Mikael Torpegaard battled past US-American teenager Brandon Nakashima. The 26-year-old from Denmark, who knocked out top seed Thiago Monteiro of Brazil in the second round, won 54 per cent of the total points played to secure a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 victory in two hours and one minute.

Torpegaard will take on No. 4 seed Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the stage of the final four. The World No. 146 from India also had to go the distance to overcome Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) after almost three hours of play.
