Both seeded players in action on Wednesday advanced to the quarterfinals of the $52,080 Lima Challenger held at the Centro Promotor de Tenis Miraflores. No. 2 seed Roberto Carballes Baena rallied from a set down to overcome Renzo Olivo of Argentina 5-7, 6-0, 6-4.
The World No. 102 from Spain capitalized on seven of his 18 break-point chances to seal victory in two hours and 45 minutes. Carballes Baena will next take on No. 7 seed Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia, who defeated Spaniard Inigo Cervantes 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 10 minutes.
In other action, Alejandro Tabilo of Chile fought past Nicolas Alvarez from Peru 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. The 23-year-old from Santiago benefited from 10 double faults from his opponent, breaking Alvarez’s serve four times to prevail after two hours and 19 minutes. Tabilo will next face Vitaliy Sachko.
The 23-year-old qualifier from the Ukraine, who played against reigning US Open champion Dominic Thiem in his first main draw appearance on the ATP Tour at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna last month, edged out Juan Manuel Cerundolo of Argentina, 6-4, 6-3. World No. 496 Sachko outpointed his rival 73-61 after one hour and 41 minutes.
