Argentine teenager Thiago Agustin Tirante headlined Friday’s quarterfinal action at the Lima Challenger by knocking out in-form compatriot Francisco Cerundolo 6-2, 6-0. The 19-year-old qualifier didn’t face a break point and broke Cerundolo’s serve five times to secure victory in only 58 minutes. Cerundolo celebrated his second triumph on the ATP Challenger Tour this season at last week’s Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil in Ecuador.

Tirante, who took the 2019 French Open Boys’ Doubles title alongside Brazilian Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida, will next challenge Ukrainian qualifier Vitaliy Sachko. The World No. 496 defeated Alejandro Tabilo of Chile 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 21 minutes.

Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia remains the only seeded player left in the singles draw of the $52,080 clay-court event held at the Centro Promotor de Tenis Miraflores in Lima, Peru. The No. 7 seed upset the tournament’s No. 2 seed Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain 7-6(6), 6-2. Elahi Galan capitalized on three of his six break-point opportunities and won 54 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 49 minutes.

The World No. 129 from Bogota will play Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera from Chile, who rallied past Vit Kopriva from the Czech Republic 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-2. The longest match of the day lasted two hours and 50 minutes.
