M15 Monastir TUN – Kaichi Uchida ends his title drought
Kaichi Uchida emerged victorious at the Magic Hotel Tours tournament held at Hotel Skanes Family in Monastir. It was the lone men’s event on the ITF World Tennis Tour in the final week of the 2020 season.
In the semi-finals with all top four seeds in action, the 26-year-old Japanese battled past Austrian No. 3 seed David Pichler in three sets.
No. 4 seeded Alexander Erler from Austria advanced to the title match with a straight-set win against Tunisian No. 2 seed Skander Mansouri.
Twenty-six-year-old Uchida struck nine aces and won 79 per cent of his first-service points in the final to prevail 6-4, 6-2 in 82 minutes. The top seed, who was ranked World No. 3 as a junior, celebrated his sixth career title on the ITF World Tennis Tour, his first since 2017.
Alexander Erler and David Pichler continued their great run of form in the doubles competition, winning their fourth consecutive trophy in Monastir and their seventh team title of the season by beating the French duo Theo Arribage and Benjamin Pietri in the championship match 6-4, 7-6.
