Top seed Matteo Berrettini will lead the quarterfinals line-up of the Antalya Open. The World No.10 from Italy defeated Bulgarian qualifier Dimitar Kuzmanov 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday.
Berrettini, who is yet to drop a set at the ATP 250 hard-court event in Turkey, broke his opponent’s service on five occasions to prevail in 68 minutes.
“The more matches I play, the better I feel,” said Berrettini. “The conditions are pretty slow here, so you need to make sure not be too passive like at the end of the second set. But besides that, I felt good.”
Up next for the 24-year-old Rome native will be No. 8 seed Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan, who eased past Frenchman Tristan Lamasine 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes.
“I played Bublik on the ATP Challenger Tour in Istanbul in 2017,” said Berrettini. “He serves very well. He’s unpredictable. We’ll see how it goes, I’m feeling well.”
In the longest match of the day, Jeremy Chardy fought past No. 3 seed Fabio Fognini 7-6(4), 6-7(1), 7-6(5). The French veteran fired 12 aces and won 68 per cent of his first-service points to advance in two hours and 53 minutes.
Chardy will next take on Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff. The No. 5 seed received a walkover from Hugo Grenier of France, who withdrew from the match due to injury on his left leg.
In the remaining two quarterfinal match-ups, No. 6 seed Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia will play No. 4 seeded Australian Alex de Minaur and Italy’s Stefano Travaglia will oppose No. 2 seed David Goffin from Belgium.
