According to the provisional 2021 calendar published by the Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) on Friday and despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Spain will host a record number of 10 ATP Challenger tournaments this year.
The El Cortijo Tennis Academy will open the season in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with two new back-to-back tournaments scheduled for the the weeks of February 22 and March 1. The total prize money for each tournament, organized by MEF Tennis Events, will be €44,820.
Next up will be the Marbella Tennis Open held at the Puento Romano Tennis Club in Marbella starting the week of March 29 followed by the return of the Cordovan town of Pozoblanco to the circuit in mid-July after having lost its spot on the calendar a few years ago due to the economic crisis. The event was played on outdoor hard courts from 1999 to 2012.

The tournaments of El Espinar in Segovia (week of July 26), the Copa Sevilla (week of September 6) will be the events offering the highest prize money of € 85,000. They will be part of the ATP Challenger 90 category, which means the winner will earn 90 ATP Ranking points.
Further ATP Challenger 80 tournaments will be held at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar in Manacor, Mallorca (week of August 30), Murcia (week of September 26), at the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona (week of October 4) and the JC Equelite Sport Academy in Alicante (week of October 11).
