HAMBURG, January 17, 2020
Fifteen-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova from the Czech Republic will play the singles final of the Tennis Future Hamburg, the first ITF World Tennis Tour W25 event held on German soil this season. Fruhvirtova emerged victorious from the battle of the teenagers with 17-year-old Germany’s reigning national women’s tennis champion Noma Noha Akugue 7-6(4), 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at the venue of the Hamburger Tennis-Verband.
Fruhvirtova capitalized on five of her six break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 47 minutes.
“It’s a fantastic start into the new year for me. I came to Hamburg without great expectations and now I am in the final. That’s unbelievable. Today it was difficult against Noma with her aggressive game. For me it was important to always stay motivated, as Noma hit a lot of winners,” said Fruhvirtova, who will appear in her second final on the Pro Circuit after finishing runner-up to Yuliya Hatouka from Belarus at the ITF World Tennis Tour W15 event in Monastir, Tunisia in early December.
The World No. 749 will take on Qinwen Zheng of China. The 18-year-old qualifier continued her great run of form in Hamburg this week with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Jesika Maleckova from the Czech Republic. Zheng fired 14 aces and won 82 per cent of her first-service points to secure victory in two hours and 58 minutes.
In other action, Anna Bondar from Hungary und Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia clinched the doubles title. The No. 3 seeds beat No. 4 seeds Amandine Hesse of France and Belgian Kimberley Zimmerman 6-4, 6-4. The final lasted one hour and 30 minutes.
