Jannik Sinner is the champion of the Great Ocean Road Open in Melbourne. The 19-year-old #NextGenATP star emerged victorious from an all-Italian final with Stefano Travaglia, winning 7-6(4), 6-4 on Court 3 at Melbourne Park.

Sinner dropped just one set en route to the trophy, when he saved one match point in an epic semi-final against Russia’s Karen Khachanov. The No. 4 seed converted four of his seven break-point chances in the title match to prevail after two hours and eight minutes.

“The confidence is there,” said Sinner after extending his winning streak to 10 matches on Sunday. “My second ATP Tour title, and this one is a bit different. Yesterday, I had a tough match against Karen, so today I’m very happy about my performance.”

The teenager captured his first ATP Tour title at the Sofia Open in November 2020.

“There have been very great moments from last year, which obviously I take with me,” said Sinner. “But this is not only about winning. Sometimes losing matches, important matches can help you maybe even more, especially when you are young.

The World No. 36 earned $19,050 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.

Murray/Soares take doubles title

On 1573 Arena, Jamie Murray of Great Britain and Bruno Soares from Brazil took the doubles title. The No. 2 seeds fought past the tournament’s top seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah of Colombia 6-3, 7-6(7). The encounter lasted one hour and 36 minutes.

“We had a great week, obviously, to win the title here in our first tournament back together. It’s really exciting,” Murray said. “Beat some top teams along the way. I think it kind of reinforces for us what we can do when we put good performances out on the court each day.”

Murray and Soares pocketed 250 ATP Doubles Ranking points and a share of $7,200 in prize money.
