The Qatar Tennis Federation takes pride to announce a strong field of participants for the upcoming Qatar Total Open, taking place from February 21-27, 2016.
Top stars on the WTA Tennis Tour will show up in the Qatari capital next month to participate in the 64-player draw. 43 players are directly entered into the field.
The Doha event was the first professional women’s tennis tournament staged in the Middle East and today it is a WTA Premier 5 event – bringing the greatest names in the sport with total prize money of USD $2,517,250.
The stars field led by world No. 1 Serena Williams includes Simona Halep; Champion of Qatar Total Open 2014, Garbine Muguruza, Agnieszka Radwanska, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber and the defending Champion Lucie Safarova .
Tournament Director, Saad Al Mohannadi, said of this field: “It’s so honorable to have a very high caliber tennis stars coming to the Qatar Total Open. It is an extraordinary field and I think it will ensure high intensive matches. It will be exciting to see if Serena can make another memorable moment here in Doha and to watch Safarova if she can defend her title for a second time among such a talented group of athletes including Simona Halep, Maria Shrapova, Angelique Kerber and Petra Kvitova.”
Tickets for the event can be purchased online beginning on January 20th.
