Tomas Machac is the champion of the Forte Challenger 125 held on hard court at Kazakhstan’s National Tennis Center in Nur-Sultan. The 20-year-old from the Czech Republic fought past Sebastian Ofner of Austria 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.
Machac battled through the top half of the draw, beating No. 7 seed Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland, US-American Mackenzie McDonald, top seed Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea and No. 8 seed Prajnesh Gunneswaran from India en-route to the championship match.
The #NextGenATP star withstood 12 aces from Ofner and broke his opponent’s serve three times to seal victory in two hours and 22 minutes.
“It was a really good week and I am really happy that I made this win. It is a really good tournament here,” Machac said.
Following his maiden triumph at the Koblenz Open 2020, Machac lifted his second ATP Challenger trophy. He took away from Kazakhstan $21,600 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points and is projected to reach a new career-high ranking of World No. 137 on Monday.
Lammons/Withrow win first team title
On Saturday, Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow took the doubles title. The top seeds emerged victorious from the all-US-American final with No. 2 seeds Nathan Pasha and Max Schnur, winning 6-4, 6-2. The encounter lasted 61 minutes.
Lammons and Withrow captured their first team title. The split $9,300 in prize money and earn 125 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
