Mats Moraing is the champion of the $10,000 Kirschbaum Internatinonal ITF Future event in Kaarst, winning Sunday’s final against Filip Veger 6-1, 7-6.

The 23-year-old German was wide awake right from the beginning, dictating most of the rallies from the baseline and served big and hard. Moraing fired 15 aces and didn’t face a single break point. Veger found his rhythm only in the second set where he took the encounter into the tie-break. He even gained a 6-2 lead but Moraing saved all four set points, converting his first match point after one hour and 13 minutes.

“Filip didn’t have a good start but improved throughout the match. In the second set I didn’t have one single break point. At 4-6 in the tie-break, I was a bit lucky with my return. I am more than happy to win the tournament here,” Moraing told claiming his second trophy on the ITF Pro Circuit, after he had won the title in Goehren-Lebbin last year.

“I was feeling some physical problems during the last couple of weeks but now I have a new fitness coach and I have been feeling fit for the last six months. My goal is to reach the qualifying of the Grand Slams next year,” the world number 482 continued. He takes away $1,440 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points.

The ITF indoor swing continues in Germany next week when the Pro Circuit arrives in Nussloch for the $25,000 MLP Cup.
