LILLE, March 29, 2021
Zizou Bergs continued his fine run of form this season by lifting his second Challenger trophy in 2021. Following his maiden triumph in St. Petersburg, Russia earlier this month, the 21-year-old Belgian captured the title of the Play In Challenger Lille held at the Tennis Club Lillois Lille Metropole. Bergs upset World No. 117 and top seed Gregoire Barrere of France 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(5) in Sunday’s single final.
Bergs, who battled through the qualifying, advanced to the championship match with wins over Germans Maximilian Marterer and Tobias Kamke, as well as Andrea Arnaboldi of Italy and Frenchman Quentin Halys. The World No. 329 struck eight aces in the final and won 69 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 50 minutes.
Bergs took away from France €9,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP Ranking points.
