PARMA, April 13, 2021
For the first time, the city of Parma, situated in northern Italy and famous for its architecture, music, art, prosciutto (ham), cheese and surrounding countryside, will host an ATP Tour event. The Emilia-Romagna Open will be held from Saturday 22 May to Saturday 29 May, leading into the French Open at Roland-Garros in Paris. The event, on a single-year license, will be held in the heart of Emilia at the President Tennis Club of Montechiarugolo.
The tournament will be organized by MEF Tennis Events, who previously ran the tournament as an ATP Challenger 125 event. Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo took the title in 2019 and US-American Frances Tiafoe was the champion last year.
“We are proud to have repaid in an extraordinary way the trust shown by the institutions and in particular by the Emilia-Romagna Region,” says Marcello Marchesini, president of MEF Tennis Events. “We started with an ATP Challenger 80 tournament in 2019 and after only three years we are preparing to organize an ATP 250 tournament: a historic feat.”
